Club History

In 2014 our club celebrated its 40th Anniversary as a Western Australian Calisthenics Club.  We are very proud of this accomplishment and the fact that we are still such a vibrant and successful club after so many years.  The clubs success is due to the commitment of our many coaches and volunteers over the past 4 decades.

West Coast Calisthenics Club originated from the Hamersley Calisthenics Club, which was started in 1970 by Debbie Craig (Coach) and Susan Choules (Assistant Coach).  In 1975 Debbie Craig was no longer able to continue coaching at the Hamersley club, due to her commitments to another calisthenics club in Wembley.  Susan Choules took over as Head Coach of the Hamersley club and the club changed its name to the West Coast Calisthenics club.  This name represented the fact that the club training were taking place at the Charles Rilyey Hall in Trigg and club membership increasingly drawn from the new northern coastal suburbs of Perth.

The first coaches at West Coast were Susan Choules, Lynne White and Gaye Munckton (nee Parker).  Teams at the West Coast club initially competed in the Novice section of the State Calisthenics competitions.  They placed well and won several sections, elevating themselves into the Championship section (now known as A Grade) in a short space of time. The club has maintained its A grade status ever since and remains one of WA's top performing clubs.
